Yonhap News: Lee Jae-myung spoke on the phone with Trump as early as today.

On June 4, according to Yonhap News Agency, South Korean diplomatic sources revealed on the 4th that South Korean President-elect Lee Jae-myung may have a phone call with US President Trump on the same day at the earliest. According to sources, the South Korean and U.S. governments are coordinating arrangements for Lee Jae-myung and Trump to have a phone call later that afternoon. The call is expected to feature a courtesy conversation in which Trump congratulates Lee Jae-myung on his inauguration and the two sides reaffirm their willingness to cooperate, but there is also the possibility of exchanging views on outstanding issues such as the North Korean nuclear issue and tariffs. The two sides may also hold principled discussions on the holding of the ROK-US summit meeting. Diplomatic circles predict that the South Korea-US summit meeting is expected to be held in the United States in July-August, given the practice that new South Korean presidents usually visit the United States as soon as possible after taking office. The leaders of the two countries are also likely to meet face-to-face for the first time on the occasion of attending the G7 summit in Canada on the 15-17 of this month, or the NATO summit in The Hague, the Netherlands, on the 24-25.
